This video shows some tests made with the kinematic orientation control of the Environmental Hybrid Robot from Petrobras S.A., Brazil.
The idea here is to keep the robot’s body parallel to the horizontal plane, actuating in its suspensions, according to the orientation of the body.
The control was developed (during my masters’s degree at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro UFRJ) to improve the stability and traction of the system.
The first tests were done in laboratory, using a platform developed to emulate rough terrains. The last test was realized on the margins of Solimões River, in Amazon rainforest.

The Environmental …
The Environmental Hybrid Robot is a remotely operated vehicle with active reconfiguration, designed for monitoring missions. The robot is going to help in the Amazon rain forest region, being used as a maintenance tool for the Coari-Manaus pipeline.
The amphibious robot is able to collect data and samples and perform tasks in difficult access areas of the forest. The robot is designed to overcome certain obstacles and to operate on water surface, land, marshes, swamps, and sand.
