Amazon Ferry Project
Imagine only drinking dirty contaminated water… your family never able to see a Doctor… queuing hours for a tablet that would ease the pain…
In May 2005 BAE Systems completed a second ship for the Vine Trust, the charity behind the Amazon Ferry Project.
Amazon Hope 2, which was re-commissioned at the International Festival of the Sea by HRH The Princess Royal, will join Amazon Hope later in the year (2005) to provide a floating health service for the deprived communities along the Amazon river.
In June 2004 the Fleet Diving Tender IXWORTH arrived in Barrow-in Furness. Here she has been refurbished and converted into a floating medical centre which will provide much needed medical services for the people of the Amazon.
Local Businesses, Schools, Community Organisations and Churches were asked to help out with this project. The target was to raise 100,000 pounds to cover the cost of the equipment and materials which would be used in this conversion.
This target has been exceeded enabling additional items to be added to the original specification.
This video has been produced to capture the various stages in the conversion of Amazon Hope 2.
The Community has pulled together to make this a project we can all be proud of…

In a way I feel a bit sad that I am the first to comment on this event. I never heard of this ship but was just casually viewing Youtube videos on ships just because who doesn’t like ships?
I hope this ship has enjoyed it’s rebirth and has been a benefit to many people reliant on such generosity.
