FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COURTENAY RIVER/TSOLUM RIVER WATER LEVELS
The City of Courtenay has been advised by the Provincial Emergency Program that the water flows in the Courtenay River and/or Tsolum River may reach over bank flood levels on Wednesday November 25, 2009.
A strong weather system is approaching the East Coast of Vancouver Island. Rainfall from this system is expected to be significant. This rainfall along with rising freezing levels, potential snow melt, and a high tide may cause flooding in the low lying areas adjacent to the Tsolum River and Courtenay River.
There will be a high tide on Wednesday November 25, 2009 at 11:56 a.m. of 4.6 metres.
Should flooding occur, the City may be required to close area roads at the following intersections at a minimum:
„« Old Island Highway at Comox Road (at Lewis Park)
„« Ryan Road at Highway 19A
„« Old Island Highway and Highway 19A at Headquarters Road
„« Highway 19A at 17th Street northbound
The City of Courtenay is issuing this press release as a precaution to make the public aware of potential flooding, and to provide advance notice to motorists of possible traffic disruptions.
